Tärnaby tourist Information. You will not find us associated with the local tourist office. Unfortunately , but understandably in a small town with a local population of circa 700 ( Tärnaby ) and 500 ( Hemavan ) and with a history of bankruptcy and struggling tourism , nepotism is rife. Due to this reason, we chose to discontinue our paid membership/subscription to " Tärnafjällens PR-Förening " . There is a local saying here that goes something like ; " You are only considered 'a local' if you have lived here for a minimum of 50 years ! " However the staff at the tourist office are very helpful and knowledgeable and they will go out of their way to assist you. They also seem to know who serves the best food in the area ... as they all like to dine in our café-restaurant !

The company Strömma Fjäll & Aktivitet AB ( which owns the ski lift system ) includes the mountain establishments in Hemavan, Tärnaby and Riksgränsen.

The company’s activities comprise the operation of the lifts, trails and cross-country tracks, outdoor and indoor events as well as activities at the hoTel and restaurants.

The company had a turnover of 108 million SEK in 2006 and during the year, Hemavan, Tärnaby and Riksgränsen welcomed 200,000 guests.
